TWO EGGS ON TOAST WILL DO
With high expectations of a new playing surface the 95ers were slightly disappointed to see the same old a carpet, trainers it was then!!
It’s getting quite normal now for the opposing team to have twice as many players as Monday, looked like again a lot of energy needed to this game.
Yinka with 2 goals to date explained that he does not normally have breakfast but today he decided to have 2 eggs on toast, so he felt very energised and asked… “just give me the ball.”
The Blues started brightly enough, managed Chew well and had the majority of the ball, primarily on the left side, but played some controlled football with the aim to tire the opponents!
Sheri and Morgs worked hard to keep their defence under pressure which prevent Chew having their normal flowing game, it was cagey with neither side fully making the most of procession and really penetrating the opposition goal.
New boy Dan saw a lot of the ball in the opening minutes and quickly learned an effective pass is a simple ball over the top for Yinka who was on the left to run onto, so he obliged accordingly and set Yinka free who got away from his defender with the 6ft 2in keeper advancing narrowing the angle, but just like Saka, Yinka was able to cooly slot out home it home to make it 1-0.
Dr Rob joined the fray for Al and Yinka was moved to the right where he was afforded space to break from his own half, a neat one two on the edge of the box with Sheri, afforded Yinka a little space to look up and notice the 6ft 2in keeper slightly off his line, this was all the invitation Yinka needed to curl a 25 yard wonder shot into the top corner.
Even their stunned keeper who just managed to get a hand to the ball said after the game “no one ever scored a goal like that against me in this league”, or maybe he said “lucky basket”, we will never know, but it made the game 2-0 as it stayed to half time.
Yinka got slightly ahead of himself when he decided to take a free kick from outside the box, his determination not to see a standard Monday free kick fly over the bar resulted in a tame dink that cleared the wall but not the crossbar, all in slow motion!
A job very well done but let's not lose it was the call from the team at half time. So all pre laid plans to give our top scorer a run up top were thrown out and Draner stayed at centre back.
Draner was seething at the fact Yinka was bearing down on his top scorer status, and despite a small rebellion, it was decided Draner was too valuable to lose from defence, there could be not repeat of the Jimbo/Yinka fiasco from the previous game.
Enter cup final of hero of years gone by Fordy for Sheri up top and Bri for Teague.
Sheri said to Fordy… "Run your bollocks off" and that's what he did as he rolled back the years. Pressing, offering, holding up play, lovely turn, linking up with others etc.
Second half was all Monday, dominating the midfield and Chew was left to trying to get past Draner and Jim who were solid throughout the game. Dan decided to continue to ignore his defensive duties (was not really required) and made decisive runs into Chew territory, one such run saw the Chew defence open up and allow Dan to unleash a long range effort that flew into the bottom corner.
This inspired Stu to have one last push forward where he tipped toed past the tiring Chew defence and finish with a neat chip over the keeper.
Al came on for Morgs then soon after Stu was rugby tackled so he subbed self off so Teague was back on, Yinka into middle and Bri added some pace on the left wing.
Monday finished strong with Yinka now in central midfield to add cover to the ageing Duds, further chances were created but poor finishing, especially from Fordy’s header 6 inches out may prove costly in the later stages of the season?
MOM: "2 eggs on Toast" Yinka.
