Easton Monday 3 - 1 Westbury Wanderers

[30 Mar : Nailsea]

A beautiful, sunny morning but ruddy cold nonetheless.

The pitch was like tarmac with an inch of rice pudding on top.

After a rousing pre-match team talk from the management team of Yarrow, Sheridan and Charlton the match began with the Monday piling on the early pressure.

A speculative cross shot from Yarrow landed safely in their keepers hands but he then decided to improve Yarrow's shots to goals ration by throwing the ball in the net. 1-0.

A few minutes later their keeper continued his generosity by lining his wall up in entirely the wrong place for Sherridan's free kick (not so much a wall as a piece of string marking where a wall should go).

2-0 up after 5 minutes. This surely was going to be a rout. But no. The Monday took their foot off the gas, let the Wanderers back in the game and they clawed a goal back on the stroke of half time despite two fantastic saves by Lee during the build up.

Half Time

This led to much half time ranting from Felix. The rage went along the lines of "you've gotta put it in and start bloody working harder!" There of course were a few more expletives but this is a PG rated report. It did cause their centre back to comment..."Blimey we've never been two goals up, what must he be like when you're losing?"

Monday struggled to impose their authority but eventually got a third when a 40 yard shot from Matt (his description) landed in the keepers hands who once again managed to throw the ball into his own net.

In between their keeper made a couple of decent saves and panicked like a frightened schoolgirl whenever we got near his area (not often enough).

Newby missed his customary one-on-one (why doesn't he try going round the keeper next time?).

Colonel replaced 'Retired' Stillman's aching limbs with his own after an hour despite Ben Adam's desperate plea to retire to the bench.

Marcus was fantastic from the first whistle to the last nothing got past him and he's added heading and passing to his dogged, tigerish tackling. Marvellous! Another couple of years and he'll be shooting as well.

Felix did enough shouting for himself and Brian put together and at one point only became audible to dogs.

All in all, a tremendous team display on a horrible pitch one for all and all for one-type stuff.
